About Us
What is Diaspora Village?
Diaspora Village is an inclusive space for all generations of Africans here in the diaspora. It is a village intended to help us find unity amongst ourselves and I have the plan for how that will come about.
We all have heard the famous quote, “United we stand and divided we fall”. And there is no doubt that Africans are divided, fragmented and separated and of course, we have been falling and still falling. But what good are a people who gain and achieve the highest levels of success but lose themselves? The divide amongst us is one of the main reason why we continue to fall. A population with so many of its people living under terrible conditions of poverty; a population with so many of its people betraying each other; expressing dislike for each other for no justifiable reasons cannot be said to have achieved high levels of success regardless of how much man-made money they may have. What a caricature we are making of ourselves.
Diaspora Village desires to eliminate that caricature and exhibit that we as a people are capable of love and unity amongst ourselves. For too long, we have disliked and neglected ourselves and that is only to our own detriment. The divide and what sometimes feels like hate amongst ourselves, hurts nobody else but ourselves. It makes absolutely no logical sense and It has to stop.
There are countless needs of Africans old and young here in the diaspora, and it is part of Diaspora Village’s vision to bring some solutions for those needs in a variety of ways which include but are not limited to:- Having a building of our own where we will implement several programs to serve some of the social and other needs of our people. A structure which will be part of the legacy that we leave for our children.- Providing a peaceful social and culturally rich and diverse environment- Provide transportation for the elderly and all others who may need it to and from the DV building- Providing age appropriate programs and activities that will improve the Emotional and social needs of our children, especially the youth and young adults. For example, We will Reconnect residents of DV with their African heritage, and share our cultural heritage with our youth. DV will create a forum for youth to be introduced to traditions that promote community such as the okwa afo (age grades) in Nigeria, in which every age group has their own leader (said leader and group are supervised and supported by elders) and the group celebrates and supports each other throughout their lives, therefore creating a support system which can help eliminate loneliness and depression. This activity will also open up communication between the older and younger generations.- Build the village
We deserve it, our children deserve it.
The possibilities are endless for Diaspora Village, and if you’re unable to see the vision, that’s ok because the Lord gave me the vision and I know it. It is all laid out step by step in my soul. Your vision is within you and I may not be able to see it either, but the duty is on us to support one another. Supporting one another can be done in a variety of ways, and it does not mean you have to bring toxic people into your space. Yes, I do understand that there are some toxic people whom we must keep at a distance, but staying divided as a people is definitely not the right answer.
If this vision for DV makes logical sense to you, then I encourage you to support and watch it manifest itself!
We desperately need a legacy for our children in this country and Diaspora Village is that legacy.
We are locally focused here in the diaspora with the intention of nurturing and caring for ourselves and our children in all possible ways because we deserve it and our children deserve it.
If you are looking for something different, perhaps a new culture then I encourage you to join us and be a part of this community as we begin this journey of establishing a new village for ourselves and generations to come. We are not affiliated with any political parties but we respect and obey the government and the laws of the land.We are not a part of any organized religious groups but we do believe that there is a Creator of the Universe. A God, who is greater than ALL, He who sees all the wickedness in this world and I am sure He is very disappointed with the way things have turned out.But it is by His Grace and instructions that I founded Diaspora Village. Therefore, we uphold His principles and plan to have them guide us.
